Urban Maintenance Systems (UMS), has just been awarded the revamped facilities maintenance contract. Comprising of three Local Board districts for the north-western region of Auckland.
Starting 1st of July 2017, the contract brings together a number of maintenance services. Previously contracted separately under one provider. This will reduce overlap and achieve greater value for Auckland. Broadly, the contract services include:
- – open space maintenance;
- – locking and unlocking of facilities;
- – buildings maintenance and cleaning.
Over the past six months, Auckland Council has been running a two-stage open tender process to procure services. Received interest from 36 companies. 12 were invited to tender, and ultimately 4 have been selected to deliver the contract.

Preparations for mobilisation are underway. UMS are actively seeking local employees, contractors, suppliers and partners to support service delivery. “We want to encourage a high degree of community engagement in our operations. Our aim by doing so, is to maximise local benefit.”
UMS was established in 1995 and provides a range of facilities maintenance and management services. With a longstanding history working with Local Government. UMS now has over 300 staff and operates from 14 locations across Australia. Their new division in New Zealand will engage a further 120 people. Working from established depots in Henderson and in Wellsford.
